PEF - New Advanced Technology Device in DRIFT-FOOD Labs

DRIFT-FOOD Centre has acquired acquired a new cutting-edge equipment – Pulsed Electric Field (PEF) device.

PEF is a green technology that enables a non-thermal treatment of food and can be employed as a pre-treatment step in recovering bioactive compounds from by-products (cell membrane permeabilization of crop residues, etc.). Additionally, this technique can be used for chemical structure modification and new functional food development.

The device was financed by the European Regional Development Fund, namely under PhD Infra project aimed at developing the infrastructure, instrumentation, laboratory, hardware and software facilities of PhD study programs in order to increase the quality and international competitiveness of the training of future researchers.“
